Pyrography

****

PYROGRAPHY is a fancy way of saying wood-burning, and literally means “writing with fire,” from the Greek pur (fire) and graphos (writing). It is a slow and intricate process that allows the wood to tell its own story through its grain and texture. I like to think of it as a meditation, as it requires patience and a willingness to be open to unexpected outcomes. Once the burning is complete, I use watered-down acrylic paint to add splashes of color and then finish each piece with a few coats of polyacrylic coating to protect it and wire for hanging.
